GRID FEATURE · PRO
Fill values
The fill handle copies values or extends a pattern from a source range. Both the drag UI and fillRange API account for editability, validation, and history.
How it works and when to use it
Help users distinguish copying one number down from extending a sequence based on the difference between two numbers.
Using this feature in a product requires the Pro package and a valid license. Matching setting names do not enable Pro features in Community.
In the code, grid is the Grid element prepared in the installation chapter. Check each example's data and settings, and implement the app functions and server endpoints for your project.
Example 1. Enable user filling
Provide a fill handle with range selection and an editable quantity column.
grid.rangeSelection = true;
grid.enableFillHandle = true;
grid.columnDefs = grid.columnDefs.map(col => col.field === 'quantity' ? { ...col, editable: true } : col);Verify the result: Drag the handle at the selection edge to fill cells. Copying and sequence results depend on numeric or string values and fillHandleMode.
Example 2. Repeat a quantity
Fill the next three cells from a cell containing quantity 5. First verify whether the operation repeats the value or extends a numeric pattern.
Verify the result: Each target quantity and the total should update together. Undo the operation if the fill result is incorrect.
Example 3. Ranges containing restricted cells
Inspect results when a range contains noneditable columns or targets that fail validation.
grid.addEventListener('fillStart', event => console.log('Start', event.detail));
grid.addEventListener('fillEnd', event => console.log('End', event.detail));Verify the result: A start event alone does not indicate success. Inspect the end report and changed cells to distinguish cancellation, exclusion, and rejection.
Combining features and troubleshooting
Group headings, detail panels, and unloaded placeholders are not stable data rows and cannot be write targets. Do not assume the entire range was written.
Autofill does not save changes to your server. One fill operation can produce many change events, so choose a strategy for batching save requests.
